The intriguing pastimes of Durvasa Muni – he who cursed Ambarisa Maharaja, he who blessed Srimati Radhika, he who incensed the residents of Dvaraka, he who was charmed by Krsna and Balarama – are bound to captivate all. This booklet, containing sixteen engaging narrations of the history of Maharsi Durvasa, is written in simple, story-tale style. Śrī Durvāsā Rși and Sri Durvāsā-āśrama possess an amazing speciality: they can both be traced back to Satya-yuga.
In about 1994, the responsibility of looking after Sri Durvāsāāśrama was offered to Srīla Gurudeva, nitya-līlā-pravista om visnupāda astottara-śata Sri Srimad Bhaktivedānta Nārāyana Gosvāmī Mahārāja. This is a very potent and famous pastime place in Sri Vraja-mandala. Acknowledging this as the desire of his śrīla gurupāda-padma, guruparamparā and Sri Sri Rādha-Krsna and Their associates, Śrīla Gurudeva accepted this responsibility. Due to his tireless effort Śrī Durvāsā-āśrama was restored, and to protect the old, worn down hill on which the āśrama is built, a concrete wall was made. Śrīla Gurudeva then constructed a magnificent temple and arranged for the immaculate daily worship of the ancient deity of Sri Durvāsā Rși along with Śrī Sri Guru-Gaurānga-Rādha-Vinoda-bihārī and Sri Yamunā-devi and Gopeśvara Siva. Today, by Srila Gurudeva's mercy, many faithful persons come to this pastime place. It is their good fortune that they receive darśana of the deities here, especially at the auspicious time of Sri Vraja-mandala parikramā and Śrī Vasantapañcami.
Śrīla Gurudeva has published this booklet, Maharşi Durvāsā & Śrī Durvāsā-āśrama, with the desire to spread the glory of this place, even to the general public. He compiled the content found in this booklet to give us specific information of both Maharși Durvāsā and his āśrama.
Whoever tastes the sweetness of the pastimes within in these pages is bound to feel most fortunate and indebted to Śrīla Gurudeva.
